Community Workers

 "Have you ever had the feeling that you have become invisible? It happened to me, I couldn’t even see myself. In other words I had given up, until one day my NNAB Community Worker appeared and saw behind the wrinkles and tremors. She filled me with enthusiasm, I was re-born. Paradoxically my sight impairment became a gift and with the help of the NNAB I feel alive again".

Practical Support

Based on individual need through assessment, your Community Worker can offer support, practical advice, and information with the following:

* Daily Living Skills

* Aids & equipment

* Leisure and activity groups

* Benefits

* Signposting to other agencies and organisations.

Emotional Support

We know that sight loss can have a devastating impact on both you and your loved ones.  Our Community Workers will provide a confidential listening ear.

Regardless of how long you have had your sight loss, our aim is to help you maintain your independence.

Please read on for some examples of how we have helped clients over the years..

  • "The NNAB Community Worker supports and enables me to take part and enjoy activities and clubs where I have made friends with other visually impaired people. Without this support I would not be able to attend as I am totally blind and I live in a village that has no pavements or safe place for me to step outside, getting out is otherwise impossible. NNAB support and encouragement has meant a great improvement to the quality and enjoyment of my life"
  • "My Community Worker has been amazing - from little things, such as advising the reversal of the shades on my overhead lighting to defuse the glare, to setting up a contact group of like-minded people for coffee and discussion.  She has taken so much trouble to pander to our oddities, showing great sensitivity and tact in the process".
