Thomas Tawell House - Further Information
Thomas Tawell House offers single en-suite rooms, home cooking and 24 hours care. The home works closely with the Primary Care Team and a local GP holds a weekly clinic and also will visit on request. We also offer a domiciliary dental service and a chiropodist visits on a regular basis. The home is very lucky to enjoy a fortnightly service by the Red Cross volunteers, to carry out manicures, this is greatly appreciated. We offer an in-house craft class and many other interesting activities can be sourced onsite in the Allen Centre.
We have upgraded our reception area to create a more friendly and welcoming atmosphere and established a seating area for residents. Corridors have been re-decorated in contrasting colours and the lighting has been renewed to maximise as much light as possible, to help the residents who have some remaining vision. We have received an Environmental Health Safer Food 4 Star Award and to further this the kitchen is being upgraded with new cooking equipment.
2008 brings a new exciting project to create a sensory garden with monies donated by grateful relatives. Following consultations with residents asking them what type of design and planting they would like to see, ideas and preferences were noted and these will be incorporated into the garden. Work on this project is scheduled to start at the end of July and the home hopes to invite all relatives/friends to an official opening of this new facility.
Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI)
Thomas Tawell House has recently undergone a CSCI Inspection and were pleased to be awarded a Two Star Rating.

Sensory Assessments
All new residents, either respite or permanent are offered an assessment carried out by our Equipment Centre staff. These assessments enable residents to maximise their sight by making available specialist equipment for all aspects of daily living. The home also works closely with the Sensory Support Team, members of which visit the home on a regular basis.
Volunteers
Thomas Tawell House is very lucky to be able to call upon the services of NNAB volunteers who visit the home weekly, socially interacting with the residents and taking them out, on a one to one basis. Our less mobile residents also benefit greatly from a friendly chat or just sitting and listening to music with their volunteer.
Outings
Residents regularly enjoy local outings arranged by our newly appointed Sports Co-ordinator, using the Associations mini-bus and volunteers on a one to one basis. These trips are to local places of interest, where residents also enjoy a visit to a ‘tea room’.
