News

The Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind (NNAB) celebrated its 200th Anniversary in 2005.

Throughout the County it helps 20,000 people with poor sight. Last year its community workers made nearly 8000 separate visits to individuals in their homes and over 4000 people visited the six equipment centres in Norwich, King's Lynn, Great Yarmouth, Cromer, Diss and the Mobile.

In Norwich it has a residential home and 20 sheltered flats as well as a volunteer presence in all four hospital eye clinics in the County. Over 250 active volunteers are an essential part of the organisation.

It receives no state funding, relying entirely on legacies and donations.

The generosity of people who supported the "Buy a Brick" campaign has been recognised by their names being placed on bricks in the main stairwell in the newly built Centre.

Director, John Child, said it had been a wonderful way of raising money and seemed to be a very personal way for people to express support.  So far £16,000 has been raised.

It is not too late to "Buy a Brick" - please contact Elizabeth McIntyre on 01603 629558 for further details.

We do hope you will come and visit us.

Visit by Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh

Her Majesty The Queen, Patron of The Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind, visited the Association on Tuesday 4th May to open the new Bradbury Activity Centre.  She was accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

During the visit, Her Majesty and His Royal Highness met many of the blind and partially sighted people the Association helps, as well as staff, volunteers and donors without whose support the building of the new centre would not have been achieved.

A truly momentous occasion which will always be remembered and cherished.

If you are interested in looking at the photographs taken on the day, please contact Elizabeth McIntyre on 01603 629558 - she will send you by email an invitation to access a special website which has been set up.
